Ducted Air Conditioning vs. Evaporative Air Conditioning – Everything You Need to Know

in HVAC

You need to keep your home cool, but you aren’t sure whether you should use ducted aircon or if you should opt for an evaporative AC unit. Let’s look at the differences between these systems below.

Ducted Air Conditioning

Ducted aircon is a good option when you have a large home that needs to be cooled efficiently. The system splits the home up into different zones, and you can then determine which areas of the home are being cooled. It gives you a substantial amount of control over the cooling in your home. It tends to be quiet and easy to control. Because you can control which rooms are cooled, it can be cost-effective. Having this type of system in your home can also increase the property value.

While this system will need to be regularly maintained, most homeowners will find that it is worth it because of the advantages that it can provide.

Evaporative Air Conditioning

This system works differently from ducted air conditioning, and it has its own pros and cons. Evaporative AC units are installed on a home’s roof. They draw in hot air from the outside, which is then passed through a vent and cooling pads. The pads are soaked with water from a cooling tank inside of the unit. This creates a vapor that’s cooler than the air, which is pumped through a fan and the ducts in the home.

This type of system is cost-effective, and it tends to be easy to maintain, which is nice. However, it does not work in humid climates, and it is not as effective at cooling when compared with refrigerated systems. Additionally, you will have a limited amount of temperature control with these units. It can be more difficult to keep your home cool, particularly if you have a large space.

What’s Right for Your Home?

If you want the best cooling possible for your entire home, a ducted air conditioning system will be your best choice in most cases. However, to be sure that you are getting the right system and that it is installed properly, let the professionals help guide you.
