Dos and Don’ts while Installing a Gas Stove

in Daily Life Hacks

More care is taken while installing a gas stove compared to an electric one. The careful handling is done while removing an old stove and installing a new one. Though quite a number of people do the removal and installation themselves. Hiring experts like Same Day Trades would enable quick solutions in case of any challenges that may arise.

Installing a gas stove has a number of steps as follows:

Shut down the gas inlet.

One step that should never be ignored is shutting down the gas line. Since for some time the connector that connects the stove and the line will be open, then the supplier valve should be shut. In some cases there is no emergency valve, if that’s the case, then it is advisable to have one installed immediately.

Remove and get rid of the connector

Now that the gas line is shut down, it is safe to remove and throw away the connector. For easier removal of a tight connector then a two wrenches would come in handy. Use one to twist while holding with the other one. Same Day Trades recommends that a new connector that has not been used before should be connected to the shut valve.

Carefully remove the old stove and according to whether it’s working or not, you can either donate, sell or use the parts as scrap.

Major Cleaning up

In most houses the space beneath the stove is mostly the dirtiest. Over time, food residues and grime build up on the wall behind. Now is a good time to thoroughly scrub, mop and if need be, repaint before the next gas stove installation.

Now is also an excellent time to clean and service the exhaust hood. The service includes checking fan is working properly and put a new lightbulb. Same Day Trades recommends a good detergent such as soapy water to remove layers of grime and blast the metal filter with hot water.

Using a suitable cleaner, remove grime from the power outlet and the adjacent areas. In addition, carefully dust the gas line but don’t disturb the valve.

Time to install the new stove

Finally, the space is clean and ready for the new installation. Same Day Trades would happily install it correctly by making sure the back is right next to the wall. However, enough space is left to maneuver while doing the connections.

To make a proper seal, use Teflon tape on the threads of the connector and the gas line after connecting them. Testing for leaks

Same Day Trades recommends for a gas leak detection anytime there is an adjustment or changes in the gas connection. There are a variety of ways to detect a gas leak. One of them is using a thick liquid which is smeared on the gas pipe and connections. Any bubbles that form is a clear indication of a leak. The second test is using an electronic device that is held closely to the connector.

Finally, make sure the stove is levelled before the final push back to its position. As advised by Same Day Trades, use hand held detector towards the back of the stove, to make sure there are leaks.
