7 Signs You May Have a Pest Infestation in Your Home

in Pest Control

It’s every homeowner’s worst nightmare: a pest infestation.

You aren’t alone though. Termites alone infest over 600,000 households every year in the USA and they aren’t the only pest to contend with (though they are one of the most common).

The signs vary depending on what exactly is invading your home, but these common signs will alert you that something needs taken care of. Fortunately, it isn’t the end of the world — they can be taken care of, but it’ll be easier to do if you catch on as soon as possible.

Keep an eye out for the most common signs that you have unwanted lodgers!

1. Droppings Left Around the House

Keep an eye out for droppings around the house. If they’re frequent enough for you to notice, chances are, more than one visitor is leaving them.

It’s a good idea to research what various droppings like, particularly if you’ve spotted some.

2. Strange Scents

Some pests will steal food and carry it around the house, leaving it to mold somewhere. Others might die on the property and begin to smell.

Whatever the reason, if you’re noticing odd smells around your home, it may be because of a house infestation.

3. Visible Holes in Wood

There are various signs of termites, but one of the most telling is holes in wood. Termites will chew through and can do extreme damage to the structure of the house.

If you suspect you have termites, it’s time to get some Fast Action Pest Control.

4. Strange Sounds Around the Home

If you’re lying awake at night and hear scuttling or scratching, it could just be a one-off — or it could be important not to dismiss it. Odd sounds are one of the biggest signs of pests and shouldn’t be ignored.

Keep an eye out for other signs and have a professional examine your house if you experience this on a regular basis.

5. Damaged Plants Outside

Pests in your house can actually be caught by damage seen outside of the home!

If you notice damage to plants close to the house, it may be because the pests are now inside of your house. Look for bite marks on the edge of leaves, or trails left by insects.

6. More Than One Dead Bug of the Same Species

Every now and again, you might find a dead bug in the house. This is pretty normal depending on where you live.

If you find multiple of the same species, it might be time to look up how to get rid of pests.

7. Evidence of Nesting

Rats and mice will nest, so if they’re your potential problem, look for evidence of this.

Stolen fabrics and shredded paper are the biggest signs of nesting. It’s important to thoroughly check corners where they could be making their home.

Don’t Wait If You Have a Pest Infestation — Get It Taken Care Of!

If you have any signs of a pest infestation, it’s important to have a Terminix professional look at your home. Pests can range from a mild annoyance to downright dangerous — for example, termites can compromise the structure of your house and that can be a very expensive fix.

Catch any pests early and have them taken care of by being aware of the signs they may be invading!
