6 Best Tips on How to Keep Your Furniture Safe

in Furnishings, Home Decor Ideas

There’s that special furniture in your house that you would like to keep safe so that it lasts for a long period. You might have spent lots of your money on it which you wouldn’t want to lose just like that when it gets spoilt.

Is it your dining set, bookshelf, center table, or bed? This article brings you the best tips on how you can keep your furniture safe and it lasts long.

1. Clean It with Soap and Water

Use a damp washcloth with mild dish soap to clean the dirt off your furniture. And after cleaning, rinse your furniture with a soap-free washcloth. You shouldn’t pour water directly on your furniture but use a washcloth because wood rots when exposed to water.

Then dry your furniture surface with a third dry damp cloth. But you should avoid cleaners that contain ammonia because it can damage wooden furniture. Yet you shouldn’t damage your furniture in the name of cleaning it.

2. Polish Your Furniture After Cleaning

In most cases when you clean your wooden furniture, the polish comes off. However, polishing after cleaning brings back your furniture’s shine and protects its surface.

So, ensure that you polish your furniture with a furniture polish that contains less alcohol. This is because polishes with high alcohol amounts can damage your wood finishes. And you end up damaging your furniture in the cleaning process.

3. Routinely Dust Your Furniture

You should routinely use a soft dry cloth or a brush to clean the dust off your BFX furniture consistently. This helps in protecting your furniture’s finishing from unwanted dirt and grit build-up.

There’s usually lots of dust in the environment which calls for a routine dusting of your furniture to prevent the dust from building up.

4. Keep Your Furniture Away from Direct Sunlight

You must position your furniture in a way that it isn’t exposed to direct sunlight. Wondering why? This is because direct sunlight can dry out your furniture and fade the wood surfaces.

The heat from the direct sunlight melts your furniture finishes and can create hard-to-repair cracks.

5. Protect Your Furniture from Pets

Having pets at home is wonderful but your pet friends can accidentally scratch your furniture and damage it. So, to save your furniture from this, you can protect the wooden surfaces with table clothes of natural fiber, protective pads, and chair covers.

6. Don’t Put Your Coffee Makers Under Upper Cabinets

The steam from your coffee makers can damage the finishing of your wooden cabinets. And to be on the safe side, place your coffee makers on the kitchen islands. Or in other open areas without your furniture exposure.

Any moisture can affect your wood be it much or little. This is because wood breathes and too much moisture leads to mildew on your furniture. While too much dryness weakens your furniture’s joints and makes it lose its natural look.

Protect Your Furniture

Taking care of high-quality furniture from BFX Furniture is key to maintaining its durability. And it stays neat and strong for a long period.
