Your roof takes a lot of hits over the years, especially if you experience all four seasons in all of their glory. From pounding rain to sub-zero temperatures, to baking sun summer after summer, there is so much that your roof protects you from. All this beating, however, takes its toll over time, which is why every few decades, you need to replace your roof.

How to Know Your Roof Needs to Be Replaced
Avoiding this can cause structural issues, leaks, and rot. You do not want to avoid replacing your roof too long if you see any of these symptoms or signs:

It’s Getting Old

Roofs last, on average, between 20 to 30 years. If your roof is at least 20 years old, you should be looking at replacing it soon by a top St Louis roofing company. Even if your roof looks otherwise okay, there can be many hidden issues that will increase costs when they finally break down.

Shingles are Beginning to Warp

If the shingles are beginning to warp on your roof, then it’s a sign that you need to replace your roof. Shingles curl in two ways. When the edges curl up, this is known as cupping. When they stay flat, but the middle comes up, that’s known as clawing. If either are occurring on your roof, it’s time to replace it.

Shingles are Cracking

Shingles crack due to wind damage, and one or two is not something to worry about. You can easily have someone come in and patch these cracked shingles and continue on. If there are many cracked shingles dispersed randomly around your roof, this is an advanced sign of age and a tell that you need a new roof.

Shingles are Missing

Missing shingles are another symptom you can patch up. Due to sun bleaching, different materials, and just age, however, the patches won’t match the rest of your roof. People eventually opt to replace the roof when these patches cover the entire surface area.

Too Many Granules are Falling Off

Granules keep the sun off your roof, so too many granules washing down your gutter could indicate that the sun is baking your asphalt roof, and deterioration is going to start to set in. Once you see them on an older roof, you can expect its lifespan to be at its middle-aged mark. So, if you’ve been seeing them for 10 to 15 years, it’s time for a replacement.

Roof is Sagging

If the roof is sagging, then it could collapse and cause serious structural damage if not the death or injury of someone in your household. You must get it replaced if you see it sagging for the sake of your home and your family.

There are Visible Holes

Another clear sign that you must replace your roof is visible holes in your attic. Check when it is sunny to see if there are any beams of light in your attic, or when it is raining heavily to see if the water is getting through your roof. If you experience either, get your roof replaced as soon as possible.
