The toilet is one of the important fixtures inside your home. We use the bathroom every single day, relying on the toilet to remain functional. Unfortunately, a toilet’s quality may deteriorate over time, with problems manifesting in different ways.

For instance, you find that the toilet is slow when you are flushing it. Slow flushing toilets are annoying and troublesome. Please don’t ignore the problem, as it might lead to more significant plumbing issues down the line. Diagnose why the toilet is slow to flush with the help of a professional plumber.

Before fixing the toilet, inspect it to see where the problem originates. For example, a consistent slow flush may be the result of low water levels in the tank. This is usually the result of the parts in the toilet breaking down due to age. Otherwise, the issue may have to do with buildup or blockage within the drain itself.

Thankfully, there are several solutions available to slow flushing toilets. Here are some ways to get that toilet fixed:

Fill Tube Fix

One of the most crucial parts of any toilet is the fill tube. This part is a small, rubbery tube that is usually coloured black. It connects to an even wider tube, which is known as the overflow tube. All of these parts serve to ensure that the toilet can flush properly. However, this can become a problem if it is neglected over time.

For the most part, the fill tube is susceptible to wear and tear with continued use. Once it has fully deteriorated beyond capacity, the toilet’s tank will fill with excess water. After this occurs, the valve will inevitably shut off. A simple fix to this problem involves switching out the fill tube for a brand new one!

Unclogged Toilet

A clogged-up toilet is one of the most common problems encountered. The blockage found inside the bowl, and by extension the associated tubes, can result in slow flushes. These clogs are generally the result of something that couldn’t be flushed, but it was flushed anyway.

A great fix that doesn’t take up too much time to implement involves using a plunger. Put on some gloves, insert the tool directly into the toilet, and give it a good push. You should gauge how well you use the plunger because things can become quite messy! Conduct the action until you can flush the toilet normally again.

Fill Valve Damage

Another critical part of the toilet’s composition has to do with the fill valve. Once this part is damaged beyond repair, a slow draining toilet will be the least of your challenges. Other encountered problems may have to do with water overflow, for example. To prevent this from occurring, immediately turn off the water supply to the toilet.

Take the tank lid off and unscrew the nut that connects the water hose to the bottom of the fill valve. After you pull the valve up from its base, place the new one into its spot. Grab your wrench again and ensure that the valve is secure. After you reattach the water supply hose, your toilet’s flushing ability should operate efficiently.

Cracked Toilet Bowl

While it is not necessarily a common issue with slow flushing, a cracked toilet bowl can still be a nuisance. Once the bowl physically breaks, leakages may be the result. A more comprehensive solution is required in this light, unfortunately. If you cannot use a sealing agent to fix the cracks, a professional may need to replace them entirely.

External Blockages

The sewer line vent is a pipe that connects your bathroom to the external areas of your home. It provides fresh air, allowing water to move through the applicable drainage system. Sometimes, the sewer line vent can become clogged due to external circumstances, affecting your toilet in totality. A plumber is your best bet for a holistic solution.

Jet Hole Fix

Sometimes, when you are cleaning your toilet, mineral buildup may manifest. This is a result of using cleaning agents daily. Over time, your toilet will not flush normally because of this type of buildup near the jet holes. All that is needed will be a good scraping of the visible deposits. Afterwards, the toilet should be able to flush again!
