You move to Florida, and the first thing you notice is that it is very hot. Your new house does not have an air conditioner. There is no way you can survive the heat without air conditioning, and you wonder how much the new AC unit and installation will cost.

The average cost of installing an air conditioner in a home in 2021 was $3,775 to $7,501, which is quite a wide range. As with most services, costs will vary depending on the type of unit you get, the company that does the work, and the ease of installing the unit in your home.

What Air Conditioning Installation Involves

Although you can install an air conditioner yourself, it is a complicated job that is best performed by a trained electrician. Technology has changed considerably in the last few years, and even a professional electrician will have to keep informed about the latest updates.

Air conditioners may be quieter than they used to be, but they have gotten larger over the years, and your new AC unit may not fit into the same place that the old one did. If an air conditioner is going to be relocated, it may involve some very intrinsic work.

Air conditioning companies are more in demand in the summer than in the winter. If you have your unit installed in January instead of July, you will save some significant money.

Your Consultation

When you are ready to replace your air conditioner, you will want to call a few different air conditioning companies to compare prices. Some companies may give you a bid over the phone, and others will want to inspect your home and your current air conditioner.

According to Downtown Air & Heat, an air conditioning installation company will need to know the type of air conditioner you are buying, the size and style of your home, and the condition of the ducts to give you an accurate estimate.

If you do not know the type of air conditioner you want, the air conditioning company can help you select a unit. It is best to select an air conditioner with a good Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER). This rating indicates how energy efficient your air conditioner is.

SEER ratings go from 13 to 23, with a 23 indicating the best possible energy efficiency. Air conditioners with a high SEER rating will have the best energy efficiency. In the state of Florida, your SEER rating must be a minimum of 14. Although an air conditioner with a high SEER rating will be more expensive, it will save you money on energy bills.

How long will this take?

Some home improvements will take several days to complete. Fortunately, an air conditioner will only take about a day to install. Your life won’t be disrupted for very long.

What are the steps to air conditioner installation?

Air conditioner installation takes a skilled hand and plenty of knowledge, but the process involves three basic steps:

  • Remove the old unit.
  • Connect the new air conditioner.
  • Test the air conditioner.

An air conditioner is a major expense for a homeowner. If you live in Florida, it is also a necessary expense. Selecting the right unit and a great installation company will help make it money well spent.
