Cost-Effective Ways to Automate and Manage Your Home

in Tools & Home Improvement

Managing a home is not an easy task. There are too many things that come into play if you want to run your house smoothly. Stay-at-home moms and dads really do the tough day-to-day handling, and we don’t really give them enough credit for it.

Imagine having an automated house, where you clap to turn the lights off or control the coffee-maker with voice command. Or even just turn on the fireplace with a remote. It’s all so fancy and at the same time seems unattainable, right? However, there are other simpler and inexpensive ways (compared to these examples at least) to automate your home. You don’t need curtains drawing themselves by the push of a button to say your home has automation features – Smart Home devices will do.

Smart Home technology may be fairly new to a lot of people but it has been introduced over the past few years. It’s a great way to automate several aspects of your home – and even save you some money in the long term.

Here are a few Smart Home devices that make it easier, and are a cost-effective way to manage your home.

1. Smart Lighting

Smart Lighting is one of the best solutions to cutting down on your utility bills. It even makes it quite manageable to control the lighting in your home. Sure the initial investment in smart lights may be a little heavy on your pocket but the long-term benefits are phenomenal. Not to mention, they are considered green, as in environmentally friendly.

Smart lights work by connecting to the Wi-Fi and then can be controlled straight from a Smart Hub, or even better, your phone! Smart lights feature mobile applications that allow you to have full control of the lighting in your home. So whether you are on the premises, or ten blocks away, you can open the app and control the lights. Turn on the porch lights when it’s getting dark, dim the lights to set the mood, or turn them off when you’re snuggled in and ready for bed.

2. Smart Thermostat

Smart Thermostats are another great Smart Home device to add to your home. Similar to smart lights, it also helps cut down on the electric and heating bill, and saves up on energy. Some Smart Thermostat models are quite easy to install yourselves, but if you aren’t too sure of your handy-man skills then it’s best to call in a professional.

These Smart Thermostats also come with a mobile application that lets you control your thermostat remotely. It even features built-in motion sensors and sometimes also uses your phone’s location in order to turn itself down if you don’t appear to be home.

3. Smart Sprinklers

Sprinklers are one of the few things that can become problematic for households very often. You could forget to turn it on for 10 minutes as your mom told you to before she left for work, or they could sometimes have leakages if the neighbor’s kid hit it with his ball. Smart Sprinklers basically just ease up the sprinkler system situation for you.

With Smart Sprinklers, you can save up a lot of water from going to waste and make your lawn look beautiful at the same time. Smart Sprinkler controllers connect to the home Wi-Fi and can be controlled through a mobile application dedicated to those devices. It makes it so much easier to manage the sprinklers in your home. You can easily turn them on or off at your convenience, or even set schedules for them to automatically function. Some controllers even use the weather forecasting information to adjust the watering schedule in order to prevent water wastage.

Final Thoughts

Smart Home Devices serve as cost-effective ways to manage your home. They can be controlled through phones, tablets, and are even compatible with Voice Assistants that literally won’t require you to lift a finger. You could be cooking in the kitchen and turn up the thermostat simply by calling out to Alexa. One thing to bear in mind though, smart home devices require steady and reliable internet connectivity, so it’s ideal that you find a good TV internet service provider in your area to support maintaining your automated home.
