Servicing your HVAC regularly is necessary to maintain an efficient system. Failing to maintain your HVAC can lead to high energy bills and an inefficient system that may end up breaking when you need it most.

By spending a little bit of money each year for regular maintenance, you’ll save in the long run thanks to energy efficiency, and any costs you might have to cover if your system were to break down.

How Often Should You Check Your HVAC?

It is recommended that you have a professional check your HVAC system once a year. Your air conditioning and furnace both need to be regularly maintained to function properly. A heat pump system needs to be serviced every six months.

If you live in a home with heating and air conditioning, you’ll likely find these to be critical to your household’s health, happiness, and safety. Therefore, you mustn’t let these systems fall apart.

Paying for an HVAC tune-up may seem expensive, but this service is necessary and worthwhile for homeowners. Regular maintenance can improve your system’s efficiency and save you money while keeping your family comfortable.

Plus, a regular check-up can prevent an overall system failure. This is a costly mistake that can be easily avoided with regular system checks.

What Happens When Your HVAC is Serviced?

By now, you’re probably on board with performing regular maintenance on your HVAC, but what should you expect during a routine maintenance check?

There are four phases to HVAC maintenance.

  1. Routine tune-up
  2. Pre-start inspection
  3. Operational reviews
  4. Troubleshooting

If your system passes this test, it’s usually in good shape and won’t need to be serviced for about another year.

What Happens If Your HVAC Isn’t Checked?

If you don’t regularly check your HVAC, you may experience the following issues

  • Broken radiator
  • Slipping gear shifts
  • Loud brakes
  • Full engine failure

These issues can be costly, and some may require new parts or a completely new system to be installed. Thankfully, they can usually be avoided by regularly servicing and inspecting your HVAC.

How Long Does an HVAC System Last?

When your HVAC is regularly serviced and checked, will it last forever? Not quite.

Typically, an HVAC system lasts about 15-25 years. This depends largely on the type of system you have and how often you service it.

If your HVAC is older than ten years, it may begin to cost you more money due to decreased efficiency. This is precisely why you need to have your system serviced to ensure these issues don’t become permanent problems.

Over time, the quality of your HVAC will decrease. This is normal and should be expected. Your mechanic will be able to inspect the condition of your HVAC and tell you if any issues need to be fixed. They can also help you decide when it’s time to get a new system.

How Will You Know If Your HVAC Is Going Bad?

Your HVAC system won’t last forever. Eventually, you will notice signs that your HVAC is wearing out. So, what should you be watching for?

An HVAC system that is going downhill will usually start to make a quiet noise as it begins to shut down. Subtle noises will indicate an eventual shutdown, but large sudden noises can mean a big problem with your HVAC.

If you hear buzzing, rattling noises, it may indicate that a part has come loose. That can sometimes be a quick fix, but it also might indicate that things are breaking down.

Making Your HVAC System a Priority

Servicing your HVAC isn’t optional, but you’ll need the right HVAC company to take a look at it.

Making sure your system is checked out regularly will help you avoid any significant issues going unnoticed. These issues can cost a lot of money in the long term, and regular service isn’t going to break the bank.

Go with a company you trust and ensure that you service your HVAC regularly to avoid breakdowns and system interruptions.
