Working from home has become the norm, which means that we all owe it to ourselves to finally get down to business and build up a great home office environment. Working from the kitchen table with the chaos of everyday living strewn about on the surfaces near you is not healthy, nor does it help you be productive. You need a space that is dedicated to your work. One where it is easy to stay organized and is great looking to boot. You can do this in three main locations, so use these suggestions to set up the ultimate office at home:
In the Spare Room
The most obvious place to set up your ultimate home office is in the spare bedroom. Don’t try to convert the space with the bed and all that furniture still in there, however. Store the bed or sell it. Working from home is going to either become the norm or, at the very least, become increasingly popular as time goes on.
If you still want to keep that room as an option for guests, switch the bed to a pull-out mattress couch. This way, you can have more than one place to sit and work and have the option to convert it if and when guests arrive.
In a Section of Your Living Space
If there is no option other than to make existing spaces multi-purpose, do it properly. Instead of working at the kitchen table, set up a small desk in the corner of one of your rooms. Even if your set up is as simple as a lap table that you have next to your bed, this will make a huge difference.
Ideally, however, try to set up a small desk next to natural light. This way, you have a dedicated working space in as productive an environment as possible.
By Building an Office Outside
If you don’t have room in your home, and the chaos of everything makes it impossible to stay on task or organized, then the best choice you have is to build an office outside. Work at home in a garden office year-round. So long as you don’t need plumbing, outdoor cabins can be erected in your backyard that is heated and powered without too much effort or cost.
You can have that dream office you have always wanted for yourself, and you don’t even need to move to enjoy one. As these cabins close and can open up during summer, they are perfect for investing in. Slowly build up a great living office that allows you to stay calm, productive, and relaxed.
When building this space, do yourself a favor early on and add any custom elements from the start. Storage, for example, or any work desks. This way, it will be a perfectly converted space.
Don’t forget to decorate it, either. Do it up. Paint the walls, add hardwood flooring, and even add in some character features. You can customize those outdoor cabins in so many ways and make it into the ultimate office and getaway destination.
