The residential electrical wiring system is not as complicated as an industrial wiring system, but there are still some things that you need to keep in mind. The household needs to know the home wiring basics to take care of their home wiring system and prevent any electrical incidents from happening inside your homes. If a homeowner is more knowledgeable about the electrical wiring system in their home, it can help them feel like a more empowered homeowner and keep the things under their control.

Home Wiring Basics

1. Service Entrance

The service entrance is how the electrical power comes to your home. The residential lots mostly comprise of 3 tables. Out of which two cables are of 12 worlds, and the third one is a neutral ground wire. If these wires are overhead, they are referred to as a service drop. On the other hand, if they come to the house from under the ground, they are referred to as service lateral. The bus service drop is connected to the weather had on the roof of the house.

2. Electronic Meter

The electrical power comes to the home through the service drop or the lateral service wires. It can even pass through the electrical meter. It can also be placed in the breaker box inside your home. The purpose of installing this electrical meter is to record the whole amount of electricity used inside the house. There are two types of electrical meters that you can get installed in your home analog or Digital. Nowadays, there is a trend of digital meter because they are easy to read by people.

3. Main Service Panel

The main service panel is the breaker box responsible for the distribution of the electricity throughout the building or home. If a short circuit or overload happens then, every circuit comprises a breaker that can shut down. All the older homes contain fuses and no breakers. Before any power company works, it is essential to shut off the power because the power coming from the service lines is active.

4. Electric Box

Electric boxes can be made of plastic wire metal. The purpose of an electric box is the connection of the wires and cables. This helps to install the Electrical switches and outlets inside the home. All the electrical devices and appliances inside a home switch into the electrical boxes. These electrical boxes come in different shapes and sizes.

Nowadays, electrical boxes come in various types of designs and aesthetics as well. If many wires have to be entered inside an electrical box, then that electrical box should be of appropriate size, respectively otherwise and overload can happen inside the home.

All the basic home wiring instructions and guidelines have been mentioned above. These are the basics that every home owner should know about to be knowledgeable about the electrical wiring system inside their home.
