3 Less Common Maintenance Tasks for Your Summer Cottage

in Tools & Home Improvement

Table of Contents

  • Air Conditioning Repair
  • Screen Repair
  • Cleaning with a Pressure Washer

As soon as warm weather arrives, it’s time to hit the cottage for a relaxing weekend in the sun. The only problem with this plan is that the first cottage trip of every year is also a lot of work. On the plus side, if you properly maintain your summer vacation property when you open up and close each year, it will be much less likely that you’ll run into more significant issues later on.

Running into a maintenance issue at the cottage is no fun at all. Unlike the city, where everything you desire is a hop, skip, and a jump away, your cottage is likely situated in a remote area that offers less infrastructure to get repairs scheduled or services restored.

That’s why you should always stay prepared by making a checklist of the most critical maintenance tasks for your cottage. Take a look at these suggestions to ensure you’re on the right track for an easy and relaxing summer rather than one full of headaches.

Air Conditioning Repair

If there’s one thing you can expect while visiting the cottage this summer, it is plenty of hot weather. The temperatures in Ontario seem to get hottest every year, so whether you’re at home or away, you’ll need a way to stay cool.

If you haven’t had your air conditioning unit serviced in a while, the beginning of summer is a great time to consider it. You’ll need to find a professional that can service your machine that works in the vicinity of your cottage to ensure they’ll be able to make the trip to where they are. For example, if your cottage is closer to the west side of the GTA, you can contact an Oakville AC repair technician to see if they can come to your property.

Screen Repair

While a cottage trip can be an excellent way to relax, it can also leave you exposed to the less desirable side of mother nature. If you’re getting swarmed by mosquitoes all weekend, you’ll need a way to escape or else you won’t be able to unwind at all.

Make sure that all of the screens on your cottage windows and outside enclosed areas are in excellent condition so you can keep the bugs out. If you want to repair any damage yourself, you can try to do so by buying a repair kit. But it might be a better idea to have them done properly by a professional.

Cleaning with a Pressure Washer

One thing that many cottages contain is a lot of exposed wood. Over time, treated wood surfaces will acquire a worn and dirty appearance, and they can also be susceptible to green algae or moss. If you want to give your wood surfaces a facelift, bring a pressure washer to your cottage to make everything look new all over again.

A cottage is a wonderful place to spend time in the summer, but every property requires maintenance to ensure it stays in working order. Get started on your yearly summer cottage maintenance by getting your air conditioning checked.
