7 DIY Cleaning Tips For Your Garage

in General

Do you enjoy handling different ho-usehold tasks by yourself? Do you have a garage? If the answers to these questions are yes, then cleaning your garage should not be a problem for you. There are numerous cleaning tips that you can adopt to ensure that you de-clutter and clean your home garage conveniently.

7 DIY Cleaning Tips For Your Garage

DIY Tips for Cleaning Your Garage

1. De-clutter your garage

The first cleaning DIY tip is to ensure that you get rid of all the items you do not need from your garage. De-cluttering your garage will provide you with all the space that you need to put other things in order. You will also get the space you need for a thorough cleaning. When de-cluttering your garage, ensure that you put all useful items in storage boxes and label them well for easy retrieval. Moreover, consider installing shelves to create more storage room for your belongings and to keep your garage tidy.

2. Consider attaching a carport to your garage

Carports Protect your car from the effects of direct sunlight or snow when your garage is full. If you have acquired another car and your garage space is limited, consider purchasing a carport and attach it to your garage. They usually have two walls that you can attach conveniently to your garage. If you need a carport, consider getting in touch with Carports in Gladstone to get a high-quality piece for your car.

3. Clean your power/hand tools

You are likely to have numerous tools in your garage that are dirty. When dealing with tools, proper maintenance is vital for their durability and enhanced functionality. You must also ensure that power tools are disconnected from their power source before you commence cleaning them. Whether you are dealing with simple hand tools or power tools, ensure that you clean them and store them safely. When cleaning power tools, be careful not to submerge the power cables or motor casings because this compromises their functionality.

4. Clean the garage floor

Once you have removed all the unwanted items and arranged those with value, the next step is to clean your floor. Garage floors and walls often have stubborn oil stains that must be cleaned. The cleaning process, therefore, should involve thorough scrubbing and rinsing of your garage floor. You can use your normal cleaning detergents to clean your garage’s floor to get rid of stains and dirt. If you find some stains difficult to clean, consider using a vinegar solution to clean them up. You can use your deck-bush to scrub stubborn stains for about 10 minutes and use lukewarm soapy water to clean it up. If you have a pressure washer, it will come in handy when cleaning your garage because it can blast away grease and dirt layers easily. This means that you won’t even have to scrub the walls.

5. Re-paint your garage

Once your garage is sparkling clean and dry, consider giving it a layer of fresh paint. Besides giving your garage a new look and making it attractive, new paint will cover the stubborn stains that might be hard to clean and offers protection against mold. When repainting your garage, ensure that you use water-resistant paint because they are easy to clean and offer good aesthetics. Before painting the garage, repair the cracks on the floor or wall to make the process easy and to give each surface a quality finish.

6. Inspect your garage door

Garage doors can be a hazard in your home if not well maintained. When they break down, they might inflict serious injuries to the person using the garage. When conducting a comprehensive inspection of your garage, be sure to focus more on the door. Some of the aspects of the garage door that need inspection include the rollers, springs, and pulleys since they are prone to wear and tear. If the door needs some repairs that require professional help, do not risk fixing them by yourself. Rather, seek expert help.

7. Clean your oily, grimy rags

If you are that kind of a person who enjoys repairing your automobiles at home, you are likely to have oily rags in your garage. Rather than throwing them away, consider cleaning them using the standard multi-purpose cleaners. Home-based all-purpose cleaners are powerful degreasers, and they will get rid of the oils and grease from your mechanic rags. Be sure to use lukewarm water to clean your rags and dry them well before storing them for use in the future.
