5 Signs that You Need to Repair Your Air Conditioner

in HVAC

Summer is creeping up and you are now realizing that you want to accommodate and prepare your family for scorching those hot temperatures. But are you certain that your air conditioner is up for the task? We want to provide you with vital information that will help you decide if repairs are necessary.

We often overlook air conditioning maintenance, and you will likely need to replace your unit if you fail to address any significant issues immediately. We ultimately want to ensure that you have reliable access to a functioning air conditioner during those hot summer months.

Here are five common warning signs that you need to repair your AC unit immediately:

Limited Air Flow and No Cool Air

This is an issue that you will likely encounter at some point. One day you go to turn on your air conditioner and nothing happens essentially. Sometimes it even takes several minutes for the cool air to trigger. This means that your unit is likely not functioning properly.

This issue can also be a result of clogs in your air ducts. This will limit your air flow and prevent cool air from permeating your home. No matter the cause of the issue, when you are experiencing low air flow, you should immediately contact a repair specialist.

Buildup of Moisture

Air conditioners tend to create and sometimes trap a lot of moisture, which can lead to operational failures. Also, excessive moisture will likely cause refrigerant to leak from your air conditioner, which is something you want to prevent if you can.

Leaks will also cause your air conditioner to underperform, and you are also potentially creating a hazardous situation for yourself and your family. Excessive moisture will lead to outbreaks of mold and other microbial growths, and if you are not careful, then you could end up in the emergency room. You should always address the issue immediately to protect the safety and well-being of your family.

Weird Noises

Are you beginning to notice that loud sounds are emitting from your air conditioner? They will likely resemble a type of grinding or squeaking noise that is obnoxious and at times unbearable. Air conditioners typically operate at a level where they are practically inaudible. If your cooling system is making unmistakably loud noises, then it’s time to contact an HVAC technician.

Rank Odors

Putrid and nauseating smells that emanate from your air conditioner are also indicators that you should inspect your cooling system at the very least. Your air conditioner should be producing clean air that doesn’t have a smell. Furthermore, if you detect a burning smell, then you are likely facing a much more serious problem that requires immediate attention.

Ridiculously High Energy Expenses

Take a good look at your monthly energy bills. Are you noticing a sharp increase? If so, then this could be an indication that you are overtaxing your air conditioner when it comes to undergoing normal cooling functions. If you are running up your energy bills to a severe extent, then you need to take action immediately. Repairing and upgrading your equipment will benefit you financially in the long run.
