  • 2 new types of homes and what makes them different
    • 1) Small houses
    • 2) Modular homes

How many types of homes are there? A lot, if you ask anyone who designs them or sells them! Home design has changed entirely from homes that offer more affordable living options, to those with vinyl windows, and even those with everything connected to a digital assistant. These aspects are then part of the variety of home types that exist, to ensure they best fit the target client’s necessities. Thus, it’s important to know the different types of homes that exist, and what makes them so different. Let’s take a look at two new types of homes and why they’re different from the standard home design you grew up with in your neighbourhood.

2 new types of homes and what makes them different

1) Small houses

Small homes take up less energy, meaning you spend less money heating and cooling. And because small homes usually have smaller footprints, they can often be built closer to services like public transportation. Small homes are great for single people or couples who are just starting out or building an additional home to rent out. But if you’re a large family or frequently host guests, it may not be as practical to build small. The existence of small and tiny homes has made home ownership a possibility even for those with less incomes as these are more affordable. Tiny homes fall under the bracket of small homes as well, but to a more extreme level. Tiny homes are smaller versions of conventional homes that often rely on innovative design and architecture to fit an entire residence into a compact space. Most tiny homes can be transported easily if need be, but that doesn’t mean you have to move to another city or state to enjoy living in one. The same principles behind designing a tiny home also help create efficient spaces for larger residences as well, making them ideal for a growing number of homeowners who are always looking for new ways to maximise available space.

2) Modular homes

Prefabricated homes have been around for quite some time now, but they are only gaining in popularity, especially with the rising interest in sustainability. These homes use much of what we already have in terms of technology to create a new type of home that is more affordable, faster to build, sustainable, and durable. These homes can be shipped from their factory to your home site. Since they’re pre-built, modular homes allow for quicker construction time and less waste during manufacturing. By prefabricated homes piece by piece as opposed to on site, workers can work faster while using fewer resources. Modular homes are also made with eco-friendly materials, which can lead to a lower carbon footprint. Moreover, modular homes are designed with energy efficiency in mind—insulation materials used in these types of structures tend to be highly effective at keeping utility costs low (and your bills out of control). For example, some companies offer homes that are made up entirely of recycled products! Although modular homes cost slightly more than standard on-site building options, you can save money by being able to oversee much of your construction process. Yet, an aspect that makes these homes so desirable is that, once construction is complete these houses arrive at their final destination in one piece ready for immediate occupancy.

Ultimately, these are just a few new innovations in the home design space that are definitely changing the way people look at homeownership. Tiny homes have become a trend which people enjoy not only because of their affordability but their unique features and aesthetic appearances. On the other hand, prefabricated houses are the most convenient for those who might want to continue living in their own home while a new house is being constructed for them. The manner in which these new home varieties are changing the market is numerous, but one thing is for sure, the design aspects can be extended to larger homes as well, which means better home designs in the long run.
