Why So Many People Are Choosing Wood Worktops Over Stone

There are many factors to consider when choosing a worktop for your kitchen. Not only does it need to look amazing, but it also needs to be practical. So why are so many people choosing solid wood worktops over stone?

The Stylish Option

Wood worktops are natural and versatile, fitting seamlessly with contemporary and modern designs, giving a hard wearing surface, always on trend. They can be used to add style, warmth, and character to your kitchen, with their distinctive colours and tones, which range from light honey to almost black.

Wood is a hard wearing material, and as time passes, the natural wood’s colour will deepen, adding even more character to the unique grain patterns and lines. A wood worktop, unlike stone, will give warmth, not just in the look it creates but also due to its tactile quality.

The Environmental Choice

Many people are conscious of how their choices impact the environment. The timber used for the worktops is harvested from sustainably managed forests; this ensures a sustainable product and looks after the surrounding area for the future. However, stone, whilst being a natural product, is not a sustainable material, and the impact of mining stone can damage the environment and the people who mine it. This is due to the water pollution, air pollution and noise pollution caused by blasting, drilling and transportation of the stone.

Wood is Durable

Wood is a highly durable material that is quick and easy to repair, with sanding and oiling if damaged. On the other hand, while hard, stone can crack and chip, which is much harder to repair than a wooden worktop.

The Quiet Touch

A wood worktop, unlike stone, will give warmth, not just in the look it creates but also due to its tactile quality. Wood is a hard wearing material, and as time passes, the natural wood colour will deepen, adding even more character to the unique grain patterns and lines.

Kitchens are no longer used just for cooking; they are often multifunctional areas used for informal dining, entertaining and the first coffee of the day. With a wood worktop, you can create a warm, hardwearing, versatile space that can become the hub of your home.

The Affordable Option

Due to the wide range of styles, and designs, of the wood worktops, there is an option to fit every budget and design, from the small cosy kitchen to the large open living space. They are far more budget-friendly than many stone worktops, giving a warmth and style that can only be achieved from natural wood.

As you can see, there are many advantages of having a wood worktop, over a stone worktop, for the modern kitchen. Not just for aesthetic reasons but also for practical and environmental causes. This goes a long way to explain why so many people choose wood over stone. Not only is it a choice that will last for a long time, but it is the best option for your home and the environment.
