There’s something about the Summer months that brings out a yearning to start on a DIY project at home. Whether it’s all the bank holidays, the longer, lighter evenings, or just the sunshine making us feel inspired. If you fancy getting stuck into some DIY at home, then we have some quick and easy ideas which literally anyone can do to transform their home.
With a little help from Google, Youtube, Pinterest, Instagram and even TikTok, there’s no limit to what you can achieve and learn. There really is a tutorial for everything, and if you’re willing to learn as you go then the world is your oyster when it comes to DIY.
However, even if you’re not feeling quite as adventurous, you can still have a huge impact on your home with these quick and easy DIY jobs:
Paint a feature wall
Paint is the new wallpaper when it comes to interior design, and designers and home enthusiasts alike are using it in creative and outside-the-box ways. Painting doors and skirting boards, as opposed to walls, painting feature designs such as arches and even dramatic geometric shapes. With some paint, a roller and a good amount of frog tape – the world is your oyster! Just don’t forget to pop on your overalls before you get started. If you’re not sure where to start, just head over to Pinterest or Instagram and check out the #PaintDIY hashtag, which is full of fun creative ways to transform your rooms with paint.
Upcycle some furniture
Upcycling a piece of furniture can have a huge impact on a room. Whether you decide to upcycle an existing item in your old home, or look out for something with potential on eBay, Facebook marketplace, or even at a bootsale or antique shop. Not only can upcycling furniture be a really fun and rewarding activity, but it’s also an incredibly sustainable way of bringing a more modern furniture piece into your home.
Shuffle a room around
Have you ever stopped and really considered the flow of a particular room? Sometimes rooms just work, and sometimes they don’t. It could be that you have an awkward shaped room, or the logistics of a room have changed slightly – for example, if you’ve started working from home and your guest bedroom is suddenly more of an office space. Sometimes a simple rejig of your furniture can have such a huge impact on how you live in a space. Before you decide to move anything around, sit down and consider how you and your family/housemates use the room. Carefully think about how you can maximise the space to work in your favour.
Create your own gallery wall
A really affordable and effective way to add some personality to your home is with photographs, prints and artwork. But creating a gallery wall, filled with a mixture of all three, can really take your interior style to the next level! This is a really great way to transform a room if you’re in a rental property too, as you can easily create this effect using command strips to stick your photos to your wall. That way you can simply remove them when you’re ready to move on to your next home, and no damage will be left on the wall!
If you’re thinking of creating a gallery wall then we’d recommend planning it out carefully first. If you’re tech-savvy you could even create a mock-up of the images you want to use, to see how they all look together.
Repaint your front door
A quick and easy way to transform the outside of your house, is to paint your front door! You’d be surprised at the amount of difference it can make to the overall curb appeal of your home. It’s also an inexpensive way to keep your house looking fresh and modern.
If you don’t fancy changing up the outside of your door, you could even transform your hallway by painting the inside of your door. Whether you decide to go dark to create a bit of drama, or go bright and cheery like this yellow door.
