The Advantages of Custom-Made Over Ready-Made Furniture

in Home Decor Ideas

Furniture not only provides utility but also adds character to the space they adorn. Utility in terms of storing our prized possessions, resting our bodies, a space to have our meals — furniture forms an important part of our daily lives. To top it, furniture is also a crucial aspect of our homes, one that helps convert a brick-mortar-wood panel house into a cosy haven.

Now that we have established the value of furniture in both our lives as well as our homes, the debate seems to centre on custom-made versus ready-made furniture. But first, let us tell you a secret: Positioning appropriately designed furniture in the right place makes a statement about your taste — something that readily available pieces of furniture cannot justify.

The list of advantages that custom-made furniture has over ready-made ones is a testimony of the fact.

Design – Don the designer’s hat and get your furniture to be made per your artistic sensibilities. Or, recreate a high-end designer piece you saw in one of the glossy magazines, that if you had to buy from the store, would cost you an arm. You could choose custom made beds Australia that is designed uniquely to hang from the ceiling or you could opt to have levered storage in the bed base.

Exclusivity – You could flaunt the one-of-a-kind furniture that you designed yourself and be the envy of your neighbours. Exclusivity is the top draw of custom-made furniture in comparison to ready-made ones. And who knows? You could discover your designing acumen and launch into a new career path altogether.

Quality – You would have total control over the quality of timber used in your furniture. Whether you choose to use ash or walnut wood, the kind of fabric and fittings of your furniture, totally depends on you. With quality control in your hands, you can rest assured that the furniture would stand the test of time. However, this wouldn’t be the case, if you were buying ready-made furniture.

Adaptability – The most prominent plus point of custom-made furniture is adaptability. If you were designing the furniture pieces, you would surely take into consideration the functionality you are seeking and the dimensions of the space where you wish to position the product. Even if you are taking expert opinion for the design and functionality, your specifications and choice would get preference. But, mass-produced furniture of standard design would hardly meet your specifications and may stick out like a sore thumb at your space.

Cost – It is a popular belief that custom-made furniture costs more than ready-made furniture. It does, to some extent. But you also have the flexibility to tune your design specifications to suit your pocket. Moreover, the utility and style are completely as per your choice, and so are the quality and exclusivity factors. So what you get in lieu of a slightly pricier cost outweighs the value of store-bought standard furniture.

So what do you prefer? Getting your furniture designed specifically to suit your space and needs or buying standardised pieces produced en masse?
