5 Reasons to Install a Water Softener

in Kitchen & Bath Fixtures

  • It helps you save money in the long-term
  • Reduced cleaning time
  • Healthier hair and skin
  • Increased lifespan of the pipes, sewer systems, and appliances

Hard water is a big problem for several homes, leading to huge losses and unnecessary expenses that you can avoid. Naturally, water from the rain does not contain any minerals and is generally safe. When this water flows, it collects several minerals such as magnesium and calcium in large amounts; hence it is classified as hard water.

A water softener is a system that is helpful in the treatment of hard water through ion exchange. This softener system traps the ions responsible for the hardness in water, exchanging them with potassium and sodium ions.

5 Reasons to Install a Water Softener

If left unfiltered, the mineral ions in the hard water can damage your home drainage system. It leads to stains that are rusty on the sinks and toilets, causing lime to build up in the shower-heads, among other problems.

You might benefit from having a water softener installed in your home. Some of the ways you might benefit include:

It helps you save money in the long-term

Installing a system to soften water in your home helps in saving you money. Hard water is associated with frequent repairs due to build-up in the water pipes and clogging in appliances.

The soft water does not have any mineral ions that may cause a build-up in the pipes and appliances. This quality of soft water means you will not need any repairs that require money. You also get to use less money on soap and detergents as compared to hard water.

Reduced pipe diameters due to clogging require more pressure to push the water through them. The increase in pressure results in higher electric and gas bills, which will be doubled by the time needed to run water before it heats up properly.

Reduced cleaning time

Using hard water for cleaning is time-consuming because you will keep rewashing your laundry and dishes. The hard water makes it hard for soap to dissolve effectively in the water leading to soap scum, causing you to use a lot of time in cleaning.

The water softener helps you get soft water that easily dissolves soap and penetrates it. It prevents hard water’s adverse effects. It quickly produces lather from soap, making it much easier to rinse and clean. With soft water, you get to enjoy cleaning as it is kind to your hands and skin.

Healthier hair and skin

The water softener system helps in the general health of your hair and skin. When using hard water, the ions cause insoluble precipitates to form, which is problematic when washing.

Water from the water softener effectively removes the mineral ions leading to a deeper lather when bathing. It helps in preventing your skin and hair from losing their natural oils. The water also aids in balancing the pH levels of your hair, leading to much healthier hair.

The health benefit of soft water is that it reduces your chances of contracting eczema and acne. It also eliminates skin irritation and itchiness caused by the use of hard water, leaving your skin feeling smooth.

Increased lifespan of the pipes, sewer systems, and appliances

The water softener systems are beneficial to your appliances and the water drainage system. Hard water causes mineral deposits in the pipes with the mineral ions, leading to damaged pipes and drainage systems.

The faucets and pipes are prone to clogs and can cost you a lot of money in repairs and replacement if not repaired on time and a plumbing inspection is part of the due diligence when buying any home, especially Laguna Beach real estate. The increase in pressure caused by reduced pipe diameters may also lead to damages to the sewer system under city streets or outlet system to the Pacific Ocean in beach communities all around the country.

Washing machines and appliances in the kitchen that use water from the systems need to be preserved from the hard water’s damage. Their longevity and efficiency are primarily dependent on the quality of water that you use for cleaning hence the need for the water softener.

Softer and cleaner clothes

Hard water causes clothes to be hard and rough after washing while giving them a dull color. The mineral ions in hard water leave deposits on the clothes every time you wash them, leading to colors that appear faded.

The soft water from the water softener system dissolves much better into the clothes. It leaves no deposits on the fabrics being washed. The ability of soft water to effectively dissolve detergents makes it much easier to use.

It also helps you get clothes that are brighter and softer while at the same time, increasing their longevity. Soft water also helps you to use less soap and detergent while washing clothes.

Much like interior design, the decision to have a water softener installed is obviously a highly personal one. However, these are some of the benefits of getting one for your home.
